I am hoping to get a tattoo on the outside of my right calf sometime over the next year. I wont get it until I figure out a design I am happy with and know I will like for the most part, when I am older. This is one of the possible candidate tattoos. I will be posting the others once i get the revamps redrawn and to a point I am half satisfied with. Also, Sorry about the quality of the image itself, it is a picture and not a scan as I would have wished it to be. I have used contrast and brighten to make the lines stand out more so, for easy viewing.

Please feel free to comment on things you like, dislike, would change, wouldn't change, add-ons, etc etc.

DESCRIPTION of this design:
- Size is apprx. 16 cm high by 16 cm wide (will be scaled smaller if used for a tattoo)
- A compass rose is the main design in all my tattoo designs. It is something I have liked for almost always and will be incorporated as a symbol of some of my personal beliefs on life (not to be explained)
- The three top stars (left) represent my mom, my (biological) father, and my (adoptive) dad.
- The three bottom stars (right) represent my half siblings Matt (deceased), Doug, and Tabatha (I).
- The map on either background is view of Canada from a "satellite" which was situation over the northern most point of the globe, hence why it looks distorted.

Yet to come:
- The blank portion on either "empty" circle part is going to be filled in according to my close siblings, Roy and Tabatha (II). A rose, perhaps for Tabby (Tabatha Rose) and a pine sprig for my brother maybe, to represent his outdoorsy personality.

I don't know what exactly will be the finished product, but, those are some ideas.

I absolutely LOVE this piece. Would you be willing to let me use the idea and tweak it for my own personal use? Im looking to tattoo something similar, but add text and other things. Something cute for me and my mom :)

This is so brilliant! I love the shading of the compass and the world encompassing (oh my, pun) around it. I love how it's finished but unfinished as is, but the rose/pine sprig combo would look great too.

I'm hoping to get a tattoo with my Dad and I was starting to look at compass ideas (so we can always find our way back to each other, know that we won't be hard to find, etc)...I would love to pitch this as an idea. With your blessing/permission, of course.

Either way, excellent. :)

This is beautiful!
Personally I really like how the design is weighted to the diagonal, I wouldn't put anything in those blank areas :)

Thanks, and I do agree about the diagonal. I am pretty partial to designs that don't sit perfectly centered.

I just got a tattoo with a few similar aspects on the back of my left calf ... i like your design , and the fact that it has meaning behind it is always important.
